reating
families is of the utmost importance to Dr. Paul C. Magarelli M.D.,
Ph.D., medical director of Reproductive Medicine and Fertility Center
(RMFC). RMFC is a medical specialty practice with locations in Colorado
& New Mexcio that treats infertility and all aspects of hormonal
pathology in woman. RMFC prides itself in providing “High Tech
with a Personal Touch”. Infertile couples can receive state
of the art In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) services in a caring, compassionate
environment. Recently, RMFC has been designated as CAP certified with
Distinction, a label rarely given to an In Vitro Fertilization laboratory.
 r.
Magarelli is unique in his qualifications to help couples create
a family. He is Southern Colorado and New Mexico’s only Board
Certified Reproductive Endocrinologist & Infertility Treatment
Specialist. He also has a doctorate degree in Nutritional Biochemistry
and Animal Physiology, specializing in reproduction. He has been
trained at Duke University and UCLA/Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
He has created a team of professionals that is unique to Southern
Colorado, i.e., it is the only program with an on-site Ph.D./HCLD
certified Embryologist, Master’s level Nurses, and financial
specialists with double masters degree’s (soon to be Ph.D.).
This unique collection of specialists ensures personal, professional,
cost-efficient, certified care both medically, financially, and
scientifically. Dr. Magarelli opened his practice in 1998 in Colorado
Springs and has been serving infertility couples in Southern Colorado
and Northern New Mexico. Dr. Magarelli recently opened an office
in Albuquerque, NM in order to more conveniently serve the many
couples that were traveling the 6 hour drive to get help with their
infertility. His goal: cost effective, compassionate, competent
IVF care for the average wage earner.
ne
way RMFC is unique in its dedication to helping couples create a
family is a free seminar series for patients entitled “ In
Search of the Stork”. Dr. Magarelli donates 2 to 3 hours of
his time each month to talk with couples about infertility; how
to get diagnosed, treatment options, and alternative methods to
enhance reproductive outcomes.
ecently,
Dr. Magarelli and Dr. Cridennda (certified Doctor of Oriental Medicine
1996 and Licensed Acupuncturist) won the Practicing Physicians Award
from the Pacific Coast Reproductive Society for their research on
the impact of Acupuncture on IVF pregnancies. The results were astonishing,
there were over 15 % more pregnancies and 23% more births in IVF
patients that were treated with acupuncture:

taffing,
credentials, board certification, experience, compassion and competence
all contribute to making RMFC the choice for high tech infertility
care, however RMFC did not stop there. Financing infertility care
is probably the second most important factor why couples feel they
can not create a family (the first reason is usually they don’t
know what is wrong with them and how to fix it!).
To answer the first concern, Dr. Magarelli uses
a very simple four question list for patients to have completed
BEFORE they are treated:
- Do you have sperm?
- Do you have eggs?
- Can the sperm and egg meet, i.e., are your fallopian
tubes open?
- Is there a safe place for the baby to grow,
i.e., is the uterus normal?
y
answering these questions couples can be assured that any treatment
they choose will be based on sound scientific and medical logic.
After the questions are answered, the next most compelling impediment
is cost of the procedure. RMFC is the first medical specialty practice
in the Southwest to offer a shared-risk program to help couples
get high tech infertility care. The program is called “Planning-4-Pregnancy
™”. With this program, couples can take advantage of
the fact that IVF works, but not 100% of the time, and that in all
IVF programs the likelihood of a success on the first try is <
50%, so that the vast majority of U.S. couples require 2.2 tries
at IVF for them to have a baby. RMFC’s P4P program allows
for up to 4 complete IVF cycles to achieve a child at a cost that
is less than the cost of 2 tries. It reduces the cost of IVF for
some patients to below $ 4800 per IVF treatment cycle (the national
average cost for each IVF cycle is over $11,000/cycle). In addition,
Dr. Magarelli understood that even at these reduced fees, some patients
may need financing. RMFC is the only IVF program in Colorado or
New Mexico that provides financing for IVF services.
